JazzChicago.Net's Top 10 Jazz Albums of 2006

Welcome to JazzChicago.Net's first annual top 10 recordings of the year. 2006 had a number of great recordings, and we make no claim to have heard everything that was released. But of the recordings we received for review in 2006 - these were the best in our opinion. As you can see, there are no numerical rankings as we feel ranking a big band album against a female vocalist against a small combo against a latin band (apples/oranges/pears)is just wrong. And as you listen to recordings, your insight into and enjoyment of the music changes - today's favorite may be yesterday's news tomorrow. And yes, we know there are 11 not 10, but hey we're jazz freaks, not accountants. That being said, we feel the albums we have listed (including the honorable mentions) are all wonderful relases that will provide much enjoyment to the listener. We hope you will take the time to check them all out!
